THE BIRD IS ME. I AM THE BIRD.
This is a series of quiet ruptures. Each composition holds moments where flight fails, or faulters or never quite begins. The birds, instead of symbols, are conditions I recognize: disorientation, descent, being held too late, being seen too much or not being seen at all. Some of the birds are cut apart and re-arranged to resemble completeness. Some birds are trying to leave but the sky offers nothing. There is fire, fog and space. The moon seems indifferent. The night is just a backdrop. This series is not about transcendence but about being in motion when the flight is uncertain and about a bird that remembers the ground.
The images are composed of photographs of my own artwork and magazine cutouts.
